Jadeyn's birthday week culminated in a weekend full of fun!!!
First of all the cake, I'm happy to say, was a success. It was my first attempt at using fondant and Jadeyn adamantly requested a "shark" cake! What a challenge! Funny thing was, the trucky part wasn't the main shark feature; that was easy and right up my alley with paper cutting. It was the draping and 18 inch wide circle of icing perfectly over a 4.5 inch tall cake that was tricky! We repaired a few spots and it looked great! Jadeyn was proud! The cake was a two tiered double chocolate fudge cake with whipped chocolate ganache in the middle, buttercream frosting and fondant. Whew!
Oh, and one other tidbit about the cake. We didn't really coach Jadeyn too well on how to blow out the candles. He took a deep breath, leaned way over the cake and Whoosh! flew back in his chair so fast with a surprised look on his face. We thought he inhaled the heat, but later noticed that he had singed off quite a bit of his eyelashes!!! Good thing we had two Optometrists in the house just in case!!
In following our birthday tradition, we headed off to the Denver Zoo! Shawn, Stephanie, Austin and Chloe joined us for some fun, and then Grandma and Grandpa Cottrell! Of course the kids and all of us loved the animals, but the kids enjoyed each others company more than anything and ran circles around each other!
