Welcome Home!

Whew! We are finally settled in and it didn't take long at all for our new house to feel like home.  We only moved three blocks away, so the neighborhood is all the same, schools are the same, walking to school is the same, but we sure are having fun with the new digs.  Below you can read the nitty gritty of the fun we have had if you'd like!

Main Level:
Living Room, Sitting Room, Office, Dining Room, Kitchen, Breakfast Nook, Pantry, Laundry Room

Top Floor:
Master Bedroom/Bath, Jadeyn's Bedroom, Jadeyn's Playroom, Guest Room

Bottom Floor:
Living Room/Entertainment Room, Exercise Room, the Cat's Bedroom, Workshop, Storage Room

We came from .18 acres to .5 acres and doubled the square footage, so there was a lot to be done to make this place our own.

The yard has been a joy, especially being here in springtime when every day brings a new discovery of something unknown popping up and trees and bushes blooming away.  The fall clean out was an experience dealing with 9 foot tall decorative grasses and figuring out the best way to fell those without burying ourselves.  Jadeyn was a 'big' help rolling in the debris!  We started to understand why almost all of our neighbors brought in a lawn service company for the fall clean-out and some of them even have them come by weekly.  There are only a few of us who don't own a riding lawn mower too!  But we did get a big compliment when one of the neighbors asked who we hired to maintain our yard!  Just us!

We found that there was a lot that the previous owners didn't really do with the year and it required quite of bit of work to get all the drip-lines functioning again and some other minor stuff like repairing the masonry.  Kevin's proudest moment came when he mastered the outdoor electrical system.  The previous owner said that he hired several different people and spent over $1500 on the lighting system and could never get it to work.  With a little smarts and dirty knees, Kevin had it fixed in an afternoon and then he added more and more lights as well!  It looks awesome!

Inside, one of the things we love the most are the wall colors.  Beautiful and warm, they are very inviting colors, so when we bought, we asked if they could leave any extra paint that they had.  Little did we know what they would leave: 51 individual cans of paint ranging from quart size to huge 5 gallon barrels!!  So...the project began of testing each can and figuring out which room it belonged to and doing a TON of touching up.

When we first bought in, there was some delay with the paperwork, but we were able to convince the owners to let us in once they had moved out so at least we could start cleaning.  They said yes, but charged us 'rent' since technically, the house was still theirs at the time.  Its a beautiful house, but it needed about a week and a half of cleaning!  All the walls, baseboards, blinds, windows, light fixtures, etc really needed attention. The light beige carpets needed a lot of TLC, but we got them sparkling after lots of scrubbing and cleaning.
